I don't think there is a best item, you almost can't win if you don't have a sword, armor food and blocks.

Finally did a decent copy of my Minecraft head of my skin. If you want the skull/diamond helmet thingy for Bedrock Edition, (I think its official name is "Diamond Skullcap"), it comes with the large Lego Minecraft Skeleton Set.
