Basically, I'm starting a YouTube channel. Why? Because YouTube. That's why.

And YouTuber rank. My only chance of ever getting a rank...

So, I was wondering what STUFFZ I need for this thing.

I have an epic Macbook, Mimecraft, and that's about it.

I'm certain I need an editing software, something to record the footage, and MAYBE a mic or something. I also noticed a lot of YouTubers wear headphones. Why is that? Is it necessary for audio?

I hope you guys can direct me to some good quality free stuff, because I'm not aloud to spend money on the Internet. Unless the thing is really cheap. Why? Because games aren't that important. DAS WHY. XD

Also, if this is in the wrong section, move it to the correct section please. :3

McDonalds :D
Just buy a mic. The headphones: It's good so other people won't hear it.. :p
And uh, skype probably for recording with people. Seeing as you got a MacBook, I reccomend screenflow.

A lot of youtubers use FRAPS to record their videos, I haven't tried CamStudio but apparently that's good.
Good luck with your videos!

If only I was aloud to spend money on stuff like a mic. The headphones might be do-able though. I don't plan on recording with others at the moment. Screenflow seems good.

I personally use FRAPS for video recording and Audacity for sound-editing. Audacity is a free software and it's absolutely fantastic. I've never personally used it for voice-editing/voice-recording, but apparently it works very well. FRAPS is fairly expensive, about 40-50 dollars if memory serves. The free version only does 30-second videos before cutting off, so for free software, it's not-so-great. I'm also not sure if FRAPS is supported on Mac.

FRAPS isn't supported on Mac. I'll see about Audacity, but right now I'm thinking editing text into videos for my commentary will be the best option.
Camtasia demo is good, sure it doesn't have every feature but it has the ones that you will need.
Thanks, that will be helpful.

Well, there are a few things you can get.

Software for editing videos - There are many different video editing programs and you can look up free ones but Sony Vegas 13 is the best but not cheap.

Software for recording videos - Screen-flow, fraps, dxtory and my personal favourite Mirrilis action. (You can chose any of these however mirrilis action is best if it supports mac)

Software for editing voice/audio - Audacity, simple to use and a great tool.

Microphone - I would recommend a desktop microphone as they sound better, you can also get a gaming headset if it fits your need better but better audio = better quality videos. (If you need help finding a microphone/headset tell me a budget.)
