Hello BedWars players and CubeCraft devs/admins.
There is a question that I've been wondering ever since BedWars Teams of 2 released on Bedrock on April 24, 2024:
Why are all Teams of 2 and Solo BedWars maps designed for 4 teams instead of 8 teams?
When Teams of 2 was released, opinions were mixed because many players were expecting 8 team maps, since that is the standard format on many Minecraft servers. I was one of those players, as I was hoping to see maps designed around eight teams.
Another thing that caught my attention is the bed skin previews in the Game Pass area of the BedWars lobby. I noticed they display several team colors that aren't currently used:
- Dark Blue
- Cyan
- Pink
- Dark Green
Meanwhile, some Teams of 4 maps already use Orange and Light Green in some instances. One or both of the usual team colors: Purple, Light Blue, Red, and Yellow got replaced by Orange or Light Green.
Seeing these additional colors made me wonder whether there were ever plans for 8 team Solo and Teams of 2 maps, or if they're simply used for cosmetic variety in the lobby.
I also understand that CubeCraft aims to make maps that work well on both Java and Bedrock networks. Four team maps make sense for the Java network because of its smaller player population, but the Bedrock network has a much larger player base, so I believe it could comfortably support eight team Solo and Teams of 2 maps if CubeCraft wants to explore that.
I'm not asking for the map format to be changed. I mainly want to understand the design decision behind it.
If anyone on the CubeCraft team knows why Teams of 2 and Solo maps were designed this way, I'd really appreciate hearing the reasoning behind it.
Thanks in advance!
