You can earn them by completing some quests or challenges or when unlocking a new island, and you can spend the points on special items or enchants or spawners and generators. I think it would be cool to have something like this :)

Although I don't really play skyblock that much I think it can be a feature because it will bring more joy to the game and more things to grind for. But I don't think it is necessary at this point.

I agree, adding another currency would both add uniqueness and reward all those punishingly expensive and time consuming side quests.
