Hello everyone, I am an active Tower Defence player and I noticed there are many people who don't know how to play the game, so I thought I would discuss the basics here. I know this game has a steep learning curve so I want to break it down instead of throwing in everything at once.
I'm not quite finished with this yet, I want to make some style improvements, but right now I just want the information to be available to you all. I hope you enjoy!
How to Play
This is a team vs team game where you have to defend your castle against the troops the enemy team will send. You do this by placing towers in the tower spots next to the path. You can also send your own troops to attack the enemy castle, but we'll get to that in a moment. Your goal is to get their castle health down to 0 to win the game, but if yours gets down to 0, you lose. So you will need to balance offence and defence.
Towers
To place a tower, click with your sword on an empty tower space. A menu will pop up with all the possible towers. Keep in mind there are two tower sizes - 3x3 and 5x5 - so consider the size before you place one down. Make sure it fits in the space too so there is room for more towers next to it.
Troops
After a short time used for preparation, you will be allowed to send troops. Right click the chest in your inventory to do this. It will open up a menu where you will find that you only have zombies unlocked. You need EXP to unlock and upgrade other troops. Click on the zombie head to add a troop, you can send up to 12 at once. Then click send to send them.
Currency
There are two types of currency in this game - coins and EXP. Towers and tower upgrades cost coins, which you will gain normally overtime. You also get coins when you or your towers kill enemy troops.
You get EXP when your troops are defeated by the enemy team. This means it is essential to send troops as often as you can. When you're holding your chest in your hand, the XP bar will count down to when you are allowed to send new troops.
Castle Bazaar
There is another item in your inventory called the castle bazaar, which is a shop full of miscellaneous items. To improve how many coins you are getting, you can upgrade your goldmine. I told you earlier that you get coins automatically over time, and by upgrading your goldmine this increases the amount you get per second.
Also in the castle bazaar are sword and bow upgrades. This makes your weapons stronger and you can also buy special abilities for them using points.
Finally, this shop also has potions. Such as the freeze potion, inferno potion etc. Some of these are meant to be used on your path, some on the enemy team's path. They will change the ground to a different colour temporarily, and any mobs on it will be given the effect that corresponds to the potion.
Keep in mind that this guide has only covered the basics, and there is a lot more to learn! I hope this gives you a good start and helps you to understand the game.
