Overview
So, currently hate speech falls under the offense of swearing (excluding a warning). This means that a person will get a 3 day mute, then a 7 day mute, then a 30 day mute and then a permanent mute. For something like hate speech, you would get the same punishment as some angry 10 year old saying "f*** i died" which in my opinion, is ridiculous. I feel like hate speech should have the same punishment track as threats - 30 day mute then permanent mute.

Why
1 - Hate speech is always intentional and directed. You cannot, in any context, say some form of hate speech without meaning what you say and without it being targeted towards an individual or a group. There is no way to accidentally insult and attack a group because of who they are. Just like threats, they are intentional and directed.
2 - Hate speech is illegal. You can go on and say all you want about "lol its minecraft just grow up lmao sensitive kid" but that does not change the law. Under Section 29B of the Public Order Act 1986, "A person who uses threatening words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, is guilty of an offence if he intends thereby to stir up religious hatred [or hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation." and under Section 18 Sub-section 1 "A person who uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or displays any written material which is threatening, abusive or insulting, is guilty of an offence if— (a)he intends thereby to stir up racial hatred, or --- (b)having regard to all the circumstances racial hatred is likely to be stirred up thereby"
Hate speech is a criminal offense, muting for 3 days isn't enough punishment for something that could very easily get you arrested if you do it in real life. It also receives the exact same punishment as in real life, don't try that one.
3 - Hate speech has a much more impactful effect than most people think. Hate speech is a horrible thing, people can get really seriously affected by it. Even the Crown Prosecution Service has said that hate speech online is to be treated as if it is the same as real life. People have self-harmed, developed mental health issues and generally it straight up ruins lives. Something with this effect shouldn't receive this light of a punishment.

I'm happy with how it is because hate speech can be really ambiguous sometimes, making the decisions much more difficult and possibly inconsistent. A death threat is pretty obvious in comparison. Obviously severe cases will be handled on an individual level with appropriately harsh punishments but changing the rules to make them more vague isn't a great idea.
