I say present rush is probably easier for a new player to pick up as it just picking stuff up and returning it to your furnace and it's a little more forgiving than snowman survival.
Present rush is probably easier to play and learn as a beginner though I personally like snowman survival more.

An example of the server problem I was talking about. You can see the ping mismatch between my client and what the server says. If I was actually lagging, the ping number on my client would be much higher. The ping spike happened after playing a few matches in the server, which makes it impossible to have a long session without lagging or having to relog.
