Web get a notification when someone you follow updates its status

Maybe I'm just dumb, but when you follow someone, you can only see when they are online, further nothing ( I think ) so my suggestion is to get a notification when someone you follow updates his status. I know you can just click on the profile, and see profile posts, but in my opinion this is a nice idea, and maybe your notifications will full in, but for me that isn't a problem!

If I were following 200 people at the moment I wouldn't want to waste my time to unfollow all of them because I hate the notifications. I have nothing against the idea, I even kinda like it. But there needs to be a clear toggle button somewhere in your settings to make this enjoyable for everyone.
