Java Do Levels Do anything?

Ever So Often after playing a lot of games, I Level up, but i don't see any new commands or changes so i don't know what the point of that is.

Levelling up used to give you a special hat when you got to lvl 100 I believe, but currently levelling up does not give you anything. In some ways you can use it show how long you've played on the server for or your dedication, but other than that not much else.
