Perhaps but people who are good at pvp will last longer in these fights
I don't think you quite understand. By "short fights", he doesn't mean a nice 20-30 second rally, he actually means short fights. The "1-3 hit fights" he was talking about isn't an exaggeration, fights in half health would actually be 1-3 hits

Can we test this out?

Ok so for those people who still support half health because you know absolutely nothing about PvP Changes:

Half health completely loses its' original purpose in 1.11+. It becomes a haven for campers, rushing becomes a lot less effective, and fights being shorter really doesn't matter anymore. And for comparison:

Prot 4 Leather
1.9 - 5.98 dmg/hit. Takes 4 hits to kill w/o gapple, 5 with gapple
1.12 - 8.28 dmg/hit. Takes 3 hits to kill with or w/o gapple
Prot 4 Chain
1.9 - 4.3 dmg/hit. Takes 5 hits to kill w/o gapple, 6 with gapple
1.12 - 8.12 dmg/hit. Takes 3 hits to kill with or w/o gapple
Prot 4 Iron
1.9 - 3.3 dmg/hit. Takes 7 hits to kill w/o gapple, 8 with gapple
1.12 - 7.13 dmg/hit. Takes 3 hits to kill w/o gapple, 4 with gapple
Prot 4 Diamond. Note: Diamond armor uses a slightly different formula for calculation
1.9 - 1.656 dmg/hit. Takes 12 hits to kill w/o gapple, 15 hits with gapple
1.12 - 3.565 dmg/hit. Takes 6 hits to kill w/o gapple, 7 hits with gapple

Leather
1.9 - 10.08 damage per hit. Should be 2 hits but due to small micro-calculations is a 3 hit kill with or without gapples
1.12 - Armor is completely ignored and it does a full 14 damage. 2 hit kill with or w/o gapples
Chain
1.9 - 7.28 damage per hit. 3 hits w/o gapple, 4 hits with gapple
1.12 - 11.2 damage per hit. 2 hit w/o gapple, 3 hits without gapple
Iron
1.9 - 5.6 damage per hit. 4 hits w/o gapple, 5 hits with gapple
1.12 - 9.52 damage per hit. 3 hits with or w/o gapple

P4 Leather
1.9 - 4.1 damage per hit. 5 hits w/o gapple, 6 hits with gapple
1.12 - 5.67 damage per hit. 4 hits w/o gapple, 5 hits with gapple
P4 Chain
1.9 - 2.94 damage per hit. 7 hits w/o, 9 hits with gapple
1.12 - 4.78 damage per hit. 5 hits with or w/o gapple

P4 Iron
1.9 - 2.26 damage per hit. 9 hits w/o, 11 hits with gapple
1.12 - 4.1 damage per hit. 5 hits w/o gapple, 6 hits with gapple (This is the exact same as leather is in 1.9)
P4 Diamond
1.9 - 1.13 damage per hit. 18 hits w/o, 22 hits with gapple
1.12 - 2.05 damage per hit. 10 hits w/o gapple, 12 hits with

I could go on and on. The general rule is that higher damaged hits benefit more, hence why high power bows (and axes to a lesser extent) gain so much a major buff. And yes, you can not survive more than 3 hits from a power 5 bow without diamond armor or healing items in normal health. So tell me again how exactly half health helps anything?

The fights I have in half hp arnt 1-3 hits. But it also depends on how good the players are. If they are very good the fights might last up to 30 seconds.

I play in 1.12 and my fights still last for 15+ seconds.
Im already in your realms btw, we can test this anytime
I just tested it now on a 1.12.2 server with half health

With leather armour:
Sharp II wood sword kills in 9 normal hits (5.625 seconds) or 6 crits (3.75 seconds). Sharp II wood axe kills in 4 crits (5 seconds).
Sharp II stone sword kills in 7 hits (4.375 seconds) or 5 crits (3.125 seconds). Sharp II stone axe kills in 3 crits (3.75 seconds).
Sharp II iron sword kills in 6 hits (3.75 seconds) or 4 crits (2.5 seconds). Sharp II iron axe kills in 3 crits (3.33 seconds).
Sharp II diamond sword kills in 5 hits (3.125 seconds) or 3 crits (1.875 seconds). Sharp II diamond axe kills in 3 crits (3 seconds).
Sharp V diamond sword kills in 4 hits (2.5 seconds) or 3 crits (1.875 seconds). Power 5 bow kills in 2 hits (2 seconds).

With chain armour:
Sharp II wood sword kills in 11 normal hits (6.875 seconds) or 8 crits (5 seconds). Sharp II wood axe kills in 5 crits (6.25 seconds).
Sharp II stone sword kills in 9 hits (5.625 seconds) or 6 crits (3.75 seconds). Sharp II stone axe kills in 3 crits (3.75 seconds).
Sharp II iron sword kills in 8 hits (5 seconds) or 5 crits (3.125 seconds). Sharp II iron axe kills in 3 crits (3.33 seconds).
Sharp II diamond sword kills in 7 hits (4.375 seconds) or 4 crits (4.375 seconds). Sharp II diamond axe kills in 3 crits (3 seconds).
Sharp V diamond sword kills in 6 hits (3.75 seconds) or 4 crits (2.5 seconds). Power 5 bow kills in 2 hits (2 seconds).

With iron armour:
Sharp II wood sword kills in 15 normal hits (9.375 seconds) or 10 crits (3.75 seconds). Sharp II wood axe kills in 5 crits (6.25 seconds).
Sharp II stone sword kills in 11 hits (6.875 seconds) or 7 crits (4.375 seconds). Sharp II stone axe kills in 4 crits (5 seconds).
Sharp II iron sword kills in 9 hits (5.625 seconds) or 6 crits (3.75 seconds). Sharp II iron axe kills in 4 crits (4.44 seconds).
Sharp II diamond sword kills in 8 hits (5 seconds) or 5 crits (3.125 seconds). Sharp II diamond axe kills in 4 crits (4 seconds).
Sharp V diamond sword kills in 6 hits (3.75 seconds) or 4 crits (2.5 seconds). Power 5 bow kills in 2 hits (2 seconds).

With diamond armour:
Sharp II wood sword kills in 30 normal hits (18.75 seconds) or 20 crits (12.5 seconds). Sharp II wood axe kills in 12 crits (15 seconds).
Sharp II stone sword kills in 25 hits (15.625 seconds) or 16 crits (10 seconds). Sharp II stone axe kills in 8 crits (10 seconds).
Sharp II iron sword kills in 21 hits (13.125 seconds) or 12 crits (7.5 seconds). Sharp II iron axe kills in 8 crits (8.88 seconds).
Sharp II diamond sword kills in 17 hits (10.625 seconds) or 10 crits (6.25 seconds). Sharp II diamond axe kills in 8 crits (8 seconds).
Sharp V diamond sword kills in 13 hits (8.125 seconds) or 9 crits (5.625 seconds). Power 5 bow kills in 5 hits (5 seconds).

Fun facts if half health eggwars existed in 1.13:
Even if someone is wearing diamond armour, you can kill them in 5 seconds with a power V bow.
Or if a bow is not to your liking, you can kill them with a sharp 5 sword in just over 5 seconds.
A full iron player (costs 20 diamonds) can be killed in 4 hits with a stone axe (32 iron), taking 5 seconds.
Or if 32 iron is too expensive for you, you can 5 hit them with a wooden axe (8 iron), taking 6.25 seconds.
A typical end-game battle (iron armour, diamond sword vs iron armour, diamond sword) could potentially last 3.125 seconds.

Seems pretty accurate, but something seems to be going on with the diamond armor calculations, they're not adding up when I do it manually. I'll do it with power 5 bow for example:

80% Starting Protection - 23 x 1% for Power 5 Bow damage = 57% Base Protection
43% Unprotected x 64% for full prot 4 = 27.52%
57 + 27.52 = 84.5
23 x .155 = 3.565 damage
10/3.565 = 2.8 something, which rounds up to 3.

My calculations don't account for regen, so is it the cause for the desparity? I don't think you could regen quick enough to survive 2 extra power 5 bow hits

Diamond armour has an "armour toughness" value attached to it, no other armour does
