You actually don't need level 10,
Around 7/8 will spawn also some level 10 spiders but not that often.
So upgrading your spawner to level 10 would increase the chances of getting lvl 10+ spiders. ;)

place the spawner then right click on it

No need to upgrade any spawner. You can already get level 10+ spiders with your current spawners, it just takes a little longer. Its up to you if you want to spent a lot of money, or if you want to wait a little longer.

Ok, but I have one more question. I now have a mission to produce 500 arrows. Where should I get the 500 flint needed to create them?

You only need 125 gravel, as you craft 4 arrows with one flint, and you'll have to buy the gravel. (Around 500k)

I am building a cacti and I would need ice to slip them. There's ice on the taiga, but I can't take it out without the silk touch...

There isn't a silk touch enchantment yet...
You can suggest it on the forums! ^^

It isn’t needed to upgrade the Spwaner/s
You can just wait until 10 spawn:)
