Ello y'all, as most of you know CubeCraft has a discord server and it's cool but I think it's time to give it a revamp. Following 2 screenshots and things which should get changed imo.

Idea 1: Change the name of #cubecraft to rules. Yes, if you join the server the first channel you see is #cubecraft, but I personally think changing it to #rules will make it so that more players read it.

Idea 2: Having seperate categories for each language. It looks way better in my opinion, and voice channels would no longer be mixed up.

Idea 3: Have a separate media channel for each language. Why not? Sometimes Spanish or Dutch people advertise their youtube channels in the general, mostly English, #media.
and if you would make a unique media channel, I think it would become dead very soon.

Idea 4: Have 2 #english channels. As most of you know, English is the most spoken language and #java is basically used as an English #2. Why not add a second #english channel? If this would get implemented, #java should be stricter.

Idea 5: Remove #arabic (#العربية). #arabic is barely used so why shouldn't we remove it? Arabic speaking people can use 1 of the 2 #other-channels. Next to this, (afaik) no staff member speaks Arabic. If we'd remove this, less rules are broken (as 'normal' players gotta translate it to English).

Idea 6: Have at least 1 unlimited English vc. You might know, you might not, but all the three English vc have a maximum player and a lot of times a member of staff has to move someone into English 1. Still don't understand why the channels have a max tho but xd. This isn't a problem for Dutch and Spanish vc's so yeh, they can have a maximum.

For those who would like an invite to the discord server: I gotcha https://discord.gg/unhgTTa

You made a very good suggestion, I think it would improve a lot.

I only agree with the #cubecraft -> #rules. Because if you make seperate channels for every language, the channels would be dead. The Dutch channel for example, is already not that active, and if you would make a unique media channel, I think it would become dead very soon.

Something that people often overlook when they make 'revamp' suggestions (both for forums and chat services) is that adding channels can quite often be counterproductive. When you add a channel you aren't just creating an area for a discussion, you are splitting existing discussion into more channels which will mean that each channel sees less activity. This might be useful in some cases, but usually it isn't. This holds true for additional categories as well, while categories do allow you to organise things into logical groups, having too many makes things look cluttered and unwieldy. I'll have a think about renaming #cubecraft to something more fitting though.

could you possibly think about having a second #english channel and if this gets implemented a more strict policy on #java? Literally 90% of the messages in #java are non-java related and should go into #english but can't as there's already a conversation in #english.

I voted for ideas 1, 2, 3 and 6. I’m not so sure why there should be two #English channel’s. It would just be hard to keep up with.

About removing the Arabic channel, I must say NO. There is an existing Arabic community in CubeCraft, and regardless of it not being as big as other communities, it is big enough to deserve being recognized. If it was up to me, I would have added way more language channels. Some could be: Swedish, Russian, Portuguese, German, Korean, etc.

Because when people in an international community have the opportunity to meet up with people that speak their same language, they will moat likely do it because they feel more comfortable with such people. And when you’re facilitating socialization, you’re helping them make friends and potentially stay on the server for longer.

Edit: This aspect is also important

We’re quite happy to see helper applications from users able to speak Arabic, Russian, Swedish etc. For now we have to rely entirely on reports, the best way to help is to make a moderator aware of any rule breaking so that it can be dealt with.
