Pumpkin carving

Carving a pumpkin doesn't work for me. I have to spawn an iron golem to get to the next island. But nothing happens with the pumpkin when I press L2 to carve.
Can anyone help me?

Yes, you don't need to carve the pumpkin, just place it on the iron setup for the golem. :)
