So apparently video evidence is required for reporting DM advertisers on Discord. The given reason is "because you can edit it" which is ridiculous. Here are the pros and cons of this rule:
Advantages:
- The very very very few fake reports are easier to spot/foil
Disadvantages:
- It prevents a large number of people reporting due to technical constraints, leading to a lot of people who should be punished not getting punished.
- It prevents a large number of people reporting due to not wanting to go through all the effort.
- It creates lots of people going on in #staff-help with screenshots, who then complain that they can't report by video.
So basically, it means that loads less reports actually get sent in all for the pure reason that the very very few fake reports, and most people who decide to fake a DM advertising report on Discord are likely to go to that extra effort to have multiple faked screenshots or video or just put one screenshot in during a spam bot raid. Preventing potentially dozens of reports just for the sake of preventing very few fake reports which may not even happen is honestly not a good idea. Not to mention that it's inconsistent with reporting for other offences. For literally any other reports - even player safety threads - you can report with screenshot evidence. If it's too risky to have DM advertising reports with screenshots, why are you allowed to report much more serious offences with much heavier punishments with the same evidence?
