They is a big change they are using Ubuntu, which is pretty good for servers like these.

Cubecraft uses their own physical servers. They have their own racks of servers.

Since the Raspberry Pi only has one gigabyte of RAM it would not be such a great idea to run a Minecraft server on it unless you are planning on making a vanilla server with 5 players or something...
