It is very hard to know who someone is via the internet when there's no physical interaction going on and we cannot see your physical reactions or eyes. All we can see is words being typed.
^ In other words, quality > quantity. Which is true. No one would want to have 100 friends that they barely talk to rather than a single close friend they can talk to about all their problems while trusting them, and vice versa.
This feeling is wrong. :D Believe it or not, there's no way for us not to see a big part of your personality when you spend such a huge part of your time being here with us.
I mean, no one knows me almost at all. You perceive yourself to believe you know someone but they can be someone who's completely different. I challenge you to accurately describe who I am.
I have seen many of your qualities just by your messages and activity on here (just like I have with lots of other members), but they will always be based on my personal opinion, so you might not think the same about yourself as I do.
''All we can see is words being typed.'' Words can say a lot about someone. The way they think, write, express themselves, and the way they behave around others. It's true that they might behave in a little different way when they are meeting someone in real (be more shy for example or something like this), but it won't be thaaat different. As long as they are not representing someone who isn't them online, of course
That's the issue, you can't know if whoever is typing those words are being typed to try and not represent who they really are. That's the issue with the online anonymity. It's kinda hard to keep up with behaving differently, but it's easy for some. I act differently online than irl but the core of my personality is the same, I think.
Another example -- moreover just an anime example -- is a Tsundere. It's people who act tough but later on reveal a very sweet side of them, it's an issue that some people suffer from, that I BELIEVE, is because of being severely hurt by others. There's some personality traits that make it possible to hide who you really are.
If you are representing someone who isn't you, then it's not internet's fault that we can't truly get to know you, but your own fault. The exact same thing can happen in real. You can never be 100% sure that someone is the person they represent. But if you are truly being yourself, then you can be sure we will get to know a lot about you.
