You could make it so that we are required to show some form of proof that we built the maps ourselves. Specifically, a video requirement which shows us building the map seems like the easiest solution I can think of. If someone’s already going through the effort of creating a map on their own and submitting it, recording footage shouldn’t be that big of a toil. Whoever reviews community submitted maps could then watch those videos on a faster speed for the maps that are being considered, and it shouldn’t be that big of a toil on that person’s end either. This would make it much harder for a map to be stolen, because someone would have to recreate a different map block by block in order to do that.
Alternatively, you could specifically allow map submissions for maps that are specifically based off of cubecraft maps which already exist. This could include:
- Creating a duels map based off of a solos or teams map (or vice versa)
I suppose you could go even further by creating a map for a different game mode, such as a lucky islands map based off an eggwars map.
- Suggesting improved or modernized versions of already existing maps
This is something I could see myself doing a lot. I find that a lot of lucky islands solos maps are poorly designed in a lot of areas. (Funnily enough, a couple of the more recent maps break the rules described
here.
- Creating seasonal variations of existing maps.
I think I made a recommendation about this in the past, but I think it would be really cool if some of the maps in Cubecraft had seasonal makeovers besides just the main lobby. It would allow maps to keep a degree of familiarity year round, but the change in atmosphere every so often would keep things fresh and interesting.
In any of the above cases, a map submitted couldn’t possibly be stolen because it would be based off of a Cubecraft map.
