why are we not able to craft boats?

I've always enjoyed trapping, but there's just one thing I'd like to see and that is slime blocks being added to the redstone kit or a new kit that contains slime blocks. My friends and I have been trying to trap with slime blocks which only exists on some maps that aren't up that often.

I'm wondering if the "perspective" mod is allowed. With the mod it's possible to view your character from 360 degrees.
