One of the reasons is that now any random player can translate and provide poor quality strings. In addition, there won't be any kind of communication between the team members as we don't know who are the other players, consequently we can't help others neither provide them feedback of their translated strings.
In other words, now anyone can join the team and start trolling or even remove all the current strings.
I would recommend taking a look at public things like git if you believe this will be the case.
Strings won't be automatically removed if someone asks for it. They'll still have to be checked.
Trolls might be present at the beginning, but I doubt that will stay for long.
If it really was this bad to make things public, we'd have no open source software that works very well
