Take FFA as an example. If you want to use a sword, you have the following options:
-High DPS, reduced armour
-Low DPS, increased armour
-High speed, reduced armour
-Potion-based, limited window of usefulness

If you want to use a bow, you have:
-Archer kit. That's it, it's just a bow and some armour

Probably because people go absolutely crazy if you shoot them more than once
