The point that no scope was making , was that although your thought process was kind, your actions could be seen as spam. A better idea would have been to make a post on your profile asking people (in general) how their Christmas went. You could also wish them a happy new year. This could have avoided the situation that has been created.

Even if you're trying to be friendly, it counts as spam and may get you forum banned. I'm just trying to help :)
