Terrible Idea. A good bowman could rush mid, get a bow for 8 diamonds and shoot a lot of eggs before they could really do anything plus it would wreck the balance of the game and make bows even more op. A punch bow is only 12 diamonds in normal.

Long games with "tower defense" bases are ok on certain maps because they are set up to have that kind of playstyle. There are ways to counter like safe bridging and shields in 1.9 but if you are doing it on a map like storm I have no excuse for you.
