what your post doesn't mention is the type of defence the enemy have set up. If it is primarily archers & turret towers, then blazes and endermites even with AoE Potions, are useless as too much damage is dealt to them. However this does leave an opening for Giants to be sent as archer towers...

You get 60% original cost, + 100% of any upgrades bought on them, whether you bought it or not. Which is why archer tower fully upgraded sells for around 140, which it wouldn't if it was 60% of total spent.

Ice towers are useless if you put them next to eachother. Its team griefing, i dont know if its punishable by ban but /votekick (name) lets you vote to kick them, so you can sell their towers.
