Sponges are in the texturepack lucky blocks, so if you place it near water the lucky block, aka sponge, will suck the water.

    Doesn't matter it's a sponge, that's a bug. The sponge shouldn't convert to a wet sponge anyway.

Just put the 'sponge' in a furnace and it will be a 'lucky block' again ;)

    Or disable 'sponges' absorbing water.

When sponges are near to water, they suck the water and it'll be a wet sponge.

In Spigot you can disable things like that. For example, that code partially fixes this issue:

    http://prntscr.com/9zte64

I made it in just a few seconds, and the only thing left is when a player places a sponge, place another one with no updates, but it seems to be buggy in Spigot.
