Hey Jinjo. Could you please add redstone to the skyblock shop? I mean redstone is a big part of Minecraft and its so much fun to work with it so please add it. Then finaly we could build automated farms, efficient monstertraps, rail systems, item sorting machines and much more. You could sell 16 redstone for 300 points or so. If someone reads this thread and thinks the same than could you please write "We want redstone" below it? That would be great! (Sorry for bad grammar.)

First, jinjo can't add redstone because first of all, he has no perms, and second of all, @jinjo90 I want your opinion. Plus I think you need to go through @halothe23 or @rubik_cube_man to sort this out because maybe they coded this. Hope this is helpful.

Maybe we might add restone when points system has been fixed, but people would just go around buying heaps of it and create lag machines on their island.

I think I may be able to explain. Skyblock works on the basis that 1-3 players will be within a 100x100 area. Most islands only have 1 or 2 people. By default, 10 chunks will load around the player in a radius, meaning that 100 chunks are loaded per inhabited island. Skyblock's map is also massive due to the fact that every person who makes an island loads another 10-100 chunks. Between the massive size of the map file, the number of simultaneously loaded chunks, the player count, the number of entities (cows, sheep, monsters, items, paintings, etc.), and the fact that CubeCraft is already fairly massive, the server has a LOT to process. Skyblock in general is a very CPU intensive type of server to run. Redstone constantly causes block updates, whether it be a pushing piston, an opening door, a glowing lamp, or a repeating logic gate. This KILLS servers. I firmly believe redstone should only be available to those privileged or fortunate enough to have received it before the shop.

TL;DR Version: Server has to do a lot. Server go boom if server has to do too much. Redstone make server go boom very easily.

Redstone functions on the basis of making many block updates at a time. For instance, a simple redstone clock has 3-5 torches and 10-12 redstone dust. A lit redstone torch is a different block than an unlit redstone torch, just as powered redstone is different from unpowered, etc. You may have noticed that the server can sometimes not handle all the block breaks you do, which is why, say, a tree's logs will come back after you break them, or your cobblestone generator sometimes doesn't drop the cobblestone as an item right away. Updating the blocks every time the clock ticks updates at least 13 blocks, and that repeats many times a minute. It would be like repeatedly placing and breaking a block very very quickly. While redstone adds a lot of features to the game like compasses, clocks, wiring, and circuitry, it also adds a lot of lag.

TL;DR Version: Redstone make block updates a lot. Too many block updates make server go boom.

In regards to the animals, I'm assuming the server cleared them all to try and reduce some lag. People seem to enjoy making very large, very laggy animal farms. This is one of the reasons redstone will likely never be very common; people enjoy making stupidly laggy farms like this one: (Starts at roughly 7:00)

and this is just one thing that'll kill a server. We found a similar chicken farm set up on a server I'm an admin on and we literally crashed if we got anywhere near the thing. We had to remove it using a map editing tool... and this server usually never has more than 20 or so people on it.

The creative server IS pretty laggy sometimes... and not nearly as many chunks are loaded in the creative server as in skyblock.

I think I might've mentioned this in another thread, but if not, I think it'd be nice if they sold things that require redstone as a crafting ingredient such as compasses and clocks. Not raw redstone though; too laggy.

This post looks really old, but if you haven't noticed yet, red stone IS available on the Skyblock server. Witches drop them, and witches (like any other mob) spawn in a mob grinder/xp farm. This is the truth because I myself have killed a witch and gotten red stone from it ^.^ hope this helped..

But it only comes in drops of one, meaning it will be hard to make a full set.
