I normally build man made structures with some minor landscaping, so this is my first attempt at large scale terraforming in a natural setting. This is still a work in progress of some kind of steep sided valley with a few caves dotted around. The trees are just placeholders until the bigger ones get built.

The plot ID is 180, -60 if you want to take a look around.

This is pretty good! Keep it up, and maybe finish it off by covering the whole plot :)

I like it :D however I think you could polish up the terraformingin around and in the river/lake a little. Keep it up!

    Thanks for the comments :)

I'm having more difficulty doing the trees though. To me some of them look like misshapen lollipops.

Try extending the branches & roots of the tree out, into the ground. As in real life, tree roots and trunks aren't perfectly straight and into the ground, they wrap around the ground / surrounding environment and are more so sprawled out. Just make them more... life like. Looks overwhelming, but if you spend alot of time on them, it'll all be worth it in the end with the results. Here's some good examples I found - [IMG]

Thanks for the tree advice. Those links are quite helpful. I've had another go at tree building. This is my biggest tree yet.

The area around the river and lake has been decorated with long grass, flowers, pumpkins and small bushes.

Someone has discovered this place and has started mining in the area, (probably bored villagers who didn't want to do farming any more ;) ).

How did they manage to move their equipment into this steep sided area? By hot air ballon of course!

My advice trees aren't straight up all the time and are thicker in some parts

Very good but like simba said, the mountains could have just a little More detail.

Maybe try making the top line of mountains not flat...make some parts taller than others, make it look jagged, make it more interesting. Or if you are going for the more peaceful look, make some parts a single block taller, but just not as much. That will hopefully make it more interesting/less perfect. (Because terraforming should NEVER be perfect, as asymmetry is more interesting)

If you mean the mountains in the corners, I had hoped to make them bigger and better but I've hit the size limits of my plot.
