    Hey y'all,

So I know there's been more than enough discussion about the hackers and blah blah blah lately, but today I'd like to divert the focus a little bit, and ask about punishing players because, well, I'm curious!

How does CubeCraft go about banning players? I so often see hackers (once they know they are being recorded) say that they have many "alts" (I assume this refers to alternate accounts?).

I would assume it was based on IP, but if it were, even alternate accounts wouldn't work, right? And if it's done by username, there really is no such thing as a permanent ban because Minecraft allows players to change their username once every 30 days.

Again, just curious, as I enjoy knowing how things and systems work! Thanks!

It's based on the UUID (click here if you don't know what that is).
This means that changing your IGN doesn't effect you ban/mute.

Cubecraft doesn't IP ban for multiple reasons (I'm sure you can come up with some yourself).
    Mainly this:

It is indeed based on the player his UUID. The UUID is a generated code which never changes. It's assigned to your account and your account only.
As said above as well, Cubecraft does not IP-ban players. One of the reasons why is because siblings that use the same internet connection would also get punished while they are innocent. Also, most of the "professional" hackers have some sort of thingie which changes their IP whenever they want to.

Cubecraft doesnt do IP bans because you can easilly bypass it by using VPN.
Also cubecraft found a way to ban alt accounts of the Hacker.
And changing your username doesn't affect the ban because your UUID stays the same. (explained above.)

I think cubecraft is doing it right at this moment.
    Are your questions anwsered?

Thats why vpn banning was created, also ip banning is not done actually more on the fact that there may be innocent players in the same house

CubeCraft doesn't IP ban. If you were wondering about the ban duration, it has been changing quite a bit recently.
Initially, before a few days ago, the ban system was like this:
    1st Ban: 7 Days
    2nd Ban: 1 Month
    3rd Ban: Permanent Ban
When the ban system was re-modified, it was then changed to:
    1st Ban: 1 Month
    2nd Ban: Permanent Ban.

Changing your username wouldn't work because it is linked to one email address, check the link that @Skifby sent about the UUID, changing your username does nothing.

There are many reasons why an IP ban isn't convenient, let's say your IP is banned and a friend comes over with his PC to play at your house, or you have like 10 friends at your house and you all want to hop onto a server and play, none will be able to get in. The way to deal with this is with a VPN but most servers don't allow you to connect with a VPN and they cost money anyway.

The vpn ban was designed when the fake ip hack was still around however vpn isnt as common anymore and yes it is costly, the archon designed a plugin over a year ago that detects all related accounts to the one checked and has not failed them yet this might be useful here to greatly discourage the ban getaround with alts

Yeah, almost everything has been answered! I understand IP banning has become obsolete all the way around, but when I first starting playing on computers, it was the most secure way to ban a person!

The only thing left is; why do players still say they have several alts? Are they just being noobs and don't realize those won't work either?XD

There are several websites that "generate" "free" alts for you. Though, you should NEVER EVER open these website. I recently discovered (read this on the forums) that when you open it, a kind of virus installs on your computer which sends your password etc to the website itself. So the "free" alts are actually accounts from the people who use it as well.
If IP-bans would be used, they could still change their IP whenever they want....
I'm bad at explaining, no hate.

Some people say they have ALT's in hopes of making you think that if you report them, nothing bad's going to happen. They can just join on the server with another account. Most player that have ALTs either do these things.
    1. Scamming people. (On YouTube, if you most likely search up things like "How do I get an ALT" "Or stuff like "How do I hack into other people's account" Most likely, in the video they will ask you for your username and password. (Nowadays it's Minecraft Email and Password.)
    2. Bought it legit. (Believe or not, some players purchase ALT's just to hack on a server.)
    3. Via Another Site. (There's a site not to long ago, that posted ALT's that actually worked. (The ALT's probably came from certain Scams.)

Wow lol I figured the only legit way would be to purchase multiple accounts, but figured nobody would be so stupid.

The scamming makes sense.. Sad sad sad.:(

Yup it is. Just keep banning. It is kind of fun to taunt them after you have good evidence of their hacking.

That my friend is called a VPN (Virtual Private Server). It can allow you to connect to all different countries, but it also gives you slow connection (Depends on the server), so I live in Norway and would connect to USA for example, then I would be having slow connection, but if I did connect to Germany, Sweden or even Norway, then I would get fast connection. It all depends were you are located and were you connect :)

    ^^^

Actually hackers don't give a daammm about a ban.
    Reasons why:
unlimited alts. (McLeaks is free. Works 100% It's with tokens that you need to redeem in your client. Some client has that code redeem thingy :p. You can also pay for alt gens. You need to pay only 5 dollars/euros to get 30-50 alts.

You can also just find alt "lists" on yt... (LOL most of them don't work lool)

Hacking can be fun.. prob 80% of the mc PC users ever installed a hacked client.

Sorry for mahhh bad english XDD

like my friend did, but he only uses it on single player worlds to experiment with them.

    Actually you are wrong

I quoted it all but im talking about this part "there really is no such thing as a permanent ban because Minecraft allows players to change their username once every 30 days."

There is something called a UUID idk what it is/means but I know every player has 1 and cannot be changed

If you ban someone the uuid gets banned aswell so changing your name wouldnt do anything

    Unique Identification Data (I think)

/p ban gets the player UUID and stores it in a database
