So, you are looking for a new computer and don't know what to get? Then you're in the right place!

Since this is posted on this forum, I will be talking about gaming computers (with windows)!

The first thing to consider is your budget. The higher budget you have, the better computer you will get. Don't expect to run (for example) minecraft with shaders and max graphics smooth with a 300$ laptop. I personally have a 1700$ desktop and I can run shaders and max settings at about 120 fps (avarage). I recommend you to get a computer over 1000$, but If you don't have a budget that big, don't worry. I will talk about that too.

The second thing you need to know is if you want a laptop or a desktop. They both have pros and cons. I personally use a desktop.
    Let's start with the laptop.

    Pros:

    • It's portable.
    • It got a battery.
    • You don't have to buy any accessories.
    Cons:
    • They have worse preformance.
    • It's hard to upgrade a laptop.
    Now let's talk about desktops.

    Pros:

    • Better preformance.
    • Easy to upgrade.
    • A lot of customizability.
    • You can build it yourself.
    Cons:
    • It's not portable
    • You have to buy a lot of accessories, such as a screen, a mouse, headphones etc.
    • Sometimes it doesn't have built in wi-fi.
The third thing to consider is if you want to build it yourself or buy a pre-built computer (if you choose desktop)
If you build it yourself (There is a lot of guides on youtube on how to build a computer. Remember that the parts can be outdated.) you will get a computer with better preformance per dollar. Building yourself will also give you a lot of customization options. However, you will have to spend some hours learning to build and building. Also, if something brakes, you'll have to find out yourself what part broke, since all parts has a diffirent warranty. Also, if you build the pc, you will almost almost always get a bigger computer than you would if you bought a prebuilt.
Now let's talk about pre-built computers (from asus, lenovo, acer etc.). They have a good warranty, but they often comes with "bloatware". That is software that is there because the developers paid for it to be pre-installed. Most of this software is useless and can be annoying. Pre-built computers often costs more, unless it's a low-end computer. Then it might be cheaper because of the OS (don't get a low end computer). If you build it yourself, you need to buy and install the OS separately.

    Now for the important stuff.
You need a lot of diffirent components to build a pc. Even if you just want a pre-built, it's important to know what they do.
Let's start with the diffirent components.
A graphics card, or a GPU, is possibly the most important part for gaming. There is 2 big manufacturers for graphics cars, AMD and Nvidia. I'm pretty sure that nvidia is bigger right now. You can use multiple graphics cards in SLI. Feel free to google it :)
Memory, or RAM, is "memory for programs". It "remembers" what you're doing right now. I recommend you to get at least get 8gb.
A processor, or a CPU, is "following instructions from a program", or is calculating what you're doing. If you're using programs such as after effects, c4d or blender, you want a good processor and good ram over a good graphics card.
A power supply, or a PSU, is providing power to your computer ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
A motherboard is basiclly connecting everything together.
A HDD/SSD is storage. A HDD usually got more storage than a SSD, but it's slower. A SSD is faster, but costs more and got less storage space than a HDD.
A case is what you build your computer in. If you doesn't want to build it yourself, it's what you will see. There is a lot of really cool cases.

So, I think that's what you need to know before buying a new pc. But there is a lot more to learn if you're interested in computers, so don't worry.
