They can heal up fully once they're almost dead whilst you've wasted all your ammo on them too.
Personally I think it's fine as it is. They can heal up back to full health, but that means you can, too. It's kind of the same as eating a golden apple mid fight, because you simply don't want to die and have the fight end there.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's rather overpowering to suddenly heal all the way back to full health, but on the other hand it's rather handy. Considering how much damage some weapons do -cough- shotguns -cough- the healing really helps. Not to mention the drinking time might also cost you quite a bit, happens to me a lot.
Whatever applies to you also applies to them, just saying.

Which shouldn't be a thing either IMO. Anyway im fine with that Sylvaly suggested too
I don't think this is the best solution, getting shotgunned to the face can one-shot somebody (Mythical shotgun one block from somebodies face will insta kill) so imagine surviving with 2 hearts and having to get out of combat for 3 seconds just to heal, other heal options dont really cut it, because its a shotgun.
I think the consumption time works better, but realistically like 5 seconds.
