Opinion about removing 1.8
I would love to adress everyone from cubecraft with my thread and mention my concerns about the decision of cubecraft to remove the 1.8 network.
As most of you have heard about it, cubecraft has decided to shut down their 1.8 network on the 15th June, 2021.
For those who haven't heard about yet, here is the link to the thread.
https://www.cubecraft.net/threads/⚠️-notice-were-updating-our-network-to-1-12-2.283171/post-1325204

My opinion and concerns:
I have to say that updating cubecraft to a version higher than 1.12 is necessarily.
Changes are necessarily to things as they keep something alive and sustainable.
In the case of Minecraft, updates keep the game alive and offer new possibilities to the game.
If Cubecraft would ubdate to a future ubdate for 1.16 example, you would have a bunch of new weapons which enhance your PvP experience (e.g. crossbow with rockets, trident and Netherite equipment.)
Things that cubecraft isn't making use of which is a waste of potential.

In economics a company has to introduce new products to make new profit and be able to achieve a positive income.
The same goes to cubecraft as to any other server that is basically a company.
They have to create to products/games and advertise those to get customers and be able to sustain themselves.
Without these, the server can't make an income through it's store if there is no income and would face bankruptcy.
But that goes too far out of the topic.

I agree that cubecraft has to ubdate as changes are necessarily but on the other side, removing 1.8 isn't like you would not only remove a version but entire communities.
Communities which have their home on the 1.8 network and with the ubdate you wouldn't only remove just a version but entire communities which are in my opinion abd I believe in others opinion, an essential part of cubecraft and with removing them, you woukd remove a some cubecraft.

Younisco said that people who prefer 1.8 can move to the Bedrock Edition of cubecraft but without being disrespectful.
It's a bold assumption because not every Java player owns a license copy of the Bedrock Edition and in addition both Java and Bedrock Edition have different mechanics which can make to people the difference.
Both versions have the same content but different game mechanics which makes people prefer one version
over the other.

What cubecraft is for me
Cubecraft for me is not just a server where you just play a random game but a place of communities.
Communities where I can meet close-minded people to whom I can talk and spend a good amount of time.
Not only that, cubecraft is a place where you can play classic games, but also unique games which make cubecraft stand out of other servers give us players a unique experience in the world of Minecraft.

My alternative solution
Without questioning, updating is necessarily but removing communities is in my opinion a big mistake in my eyes.
Instead of removing cubecraft's 1.8 communities.
I suggest that the 1.8 cubecraft communities get taken with to the +1.12 ubdate, including the combat.

The past...
Cubecraft used to have in the past two types of FFA.
1.9 and 1.8 and both were accessible on any version up from 1.9.
Basically you were able to play 1.8 combat on any higher version from 1.9.
Surely it isn't the same as actual 1.8 combat on 1.8 but honestly, there are tons of servers that offer such type of PvP and my opinion Cubecraft is a server where it stands out of other servers and which is where Cubecraft can point and attract more people with offering something unique which other servers have not.
With having 1.8 PvP stimulated in the higher versions, we not only have the 1.8 Combat but also more stuff such as Elytras, trident and more which can enhance the PvP experience.

The Future!
For the future, Mojang is planning to change the combat again which is still work in progress and speculating about it is kinda pointless but for sure Cubecraft is planning to ubdate as some information of that can be found in one of Socratias SocCast in the interview with Dawson, the Dev for Sentinel.
Back to the combat, if Cubecraft would decide to ubdate to the new combat, it would mean that 1.9 combat would be removed aswell and with it several communities aswell if they don't move to the higher versions.
My suggestion is that Cubecraft offers for now both combats in +1.12 and for the future all 3 combat systems in the latest Minecraft versions.
The benefit of this would be that there would be no more separation caused by changing versions but also bring all Cubecraft communities closer and make them work together which would also make people from the one combat system more likely to try out the other combat system.
People would more likely to try out the other combat system because it would no longer require to start minecraft again on a different version which is for some people (including myself) annoying.
To me Cubecraft is a place of communities and unique games and I would wish that it would remain like that.

My Idea
•Updating to +1.12 or higher version.
•Add accordingly 1.8 combat stimulated in 1.12
(Add the popular 1.8 modes such as FFA and Egg Wars stimulated to +1.12, if it is a success, potentially do the same with other modes.
Potentially do later do the same with 1.8 and 1.9 in the new combat in the future)

Final words
Removing communities is a mistake because those are part of cubecraft and cubecraft is a place to offer us players unique experience which make cubecraft at all stand out of other servers.
In the end it is up to cubecraft what direction they decide to go but as a player I can state my opinion and concerns freely and without us players, there would be no server.
I do hope that cubecraft is going to reconsider their program for the 1.12 network ubdate and make a solution which would satisfy most people.

You are not only removing a network but a whole network worth of communities and half of your player base. While I am also excited for the newer updates that you have in store, I still do feel like having 1.8 around somehow would still benefit the server and keep a lot more of your players. I hope this is considered :(

Updating to 1.16 would be a huge undertaking! Any version higher than 1.12.2 is extremely unstable, for large servers. This is the reason why servers such as 2b2t are on 1.12.2!

Actually the 1.8 community is only 1.5% of the community. 6.5% is Java 1.9+, and 92 percent is Bedrock. And also 1.8 is limiting Bedrock, and Java 1.9+. Because they have to stay on an older version, for streamlined development.

You do realize that I was doing an example.
First off all, I was addressing the upcoming 1.12 network ubdate which will also remove the 1.8 network.
Secondly I am suggesting an option how to keep the 1.8 communities

With mentioning 1.16 I was doing an example of possibilities for the future.
I am fully aware it is a lot of work to ubdate but sooner or later it has to happen anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate your comments and you do have concerns aswell But I think you missed the point of this thread.

And I wouldn't compare cube to 2b2t, both are different servers with different communities and content.

This update only affects the java server. Assuming your numbers are correct, if we ignore bedrock, that small 1.5% becomes ~18% of the total java player base. That's large chunk of players.

However, the size of the player base is irrelevant. Just because it's a small minority of players doesn't change the fact that entire communities are being essentially removed. That's why I think it would be a great idea to bring back the simulated 1.8 combat within the newer network so those communities can still exist and grow.

If you transfer 1.8 combat into 1.9 combat, it slighty will be different than the original 1.8 combat. The best is to remove 1.8. CubeCraft is mainly focused on 1.9+ and 1.8 would just be a pain in the **** to keep those servers running for not even than 500 players a day.

I still do feel like having 1.8 around somehow would still benefit the server and keep a lot more of your players.
How would it benefit the server to keep servers running for only 300-400 players?

Cubecraft has in general around 5000 players per day and 600 of them play on 1.8, which is around 12%.
A huge minority in my opinion which shouldn't be forgotten.

In addition the statistics of Younisco shows the amount of players of the last 3 months.
You have to keep in mind that many people are busy with stuff such as school which means they have less to no time to play.
It's good to assume that more people will play in the summer break.

Actually, Bedrock has a younger playerbase than Java. So during summer holidays, this gap in player count may grow even larger.

But they both face technical issues. And both would have problems update past 1.12.2.

Those younger people are mostly elemtary students from 1st to 6th grade which have mostly always time to play.
I was mostly adressing the ones who go to 7th grade upwards or even university which would have time then.

I totally agree with you, I'm one of those players that play Minecraft on Java using 1.8 version and I like the idea of updating to 1.9+ due to all the new things that will bring to the server, but, at the same time, I don't want to familiarize with a totally new combat system, what would be like starting Minecraft from the beginning. Also as you said many players (including myself) don't own bedrock and only have a license for Java and I would like to keep playing Minecraft on 1.9 and higher versions but using the same combat system I used to play with. I think it's important for us, even if we are a small part of the entire Cubecraft network, and because I think it's a solution that would make everyone happy as all the players would be able to choice which pvp system they want to use.
I'm not against the update but I would like to see this implemented within the server for players like me.

Yes, 1.8 servers for Java are not actually worth it for Cubecraft, we all know that and they probably need to be shutted down. I also think that the change is necessary and that it will make the content much better. But for all the players like me that want to play with the old pvp system the server could implement an option to select which combat system you want to use. It's just the capacity to choice and use the best system for you, I don't think it's anything crazy. I have been playing Minecraft for over 7 years using the old system and that would be an easy solution to finish with this dilemma once and for all.

I actually preferred the simulated 1.8 combat to the actual 1.8 network. It worked great and kinda felt more smooth, and it was cool to be able to use elytra with the old combat.

How would it benefit the server to keep servers running for only 300-400 players?
300-400 players is a substantial amount of people.

Right now, there are ~1800 players on the 1.9 network and ~100 players playing tower defense. If we assume that Cube sees 5000 players during peak hours, then there would be about 277 players on tower defense during peak.

The 1.8 network gets way more players than tower defense, but no one in there right mind would suggest that tower defense isn't benefitting the server. Why is it any different with 1.8? How would hundreds of players not benefit the server?

As stated in the announcement thread, the 1.8 community accounts for on average, 1% of their playerbase. That 1% should not be catered to if it massively holds back the remaining 99% which it does.

Idea? Why?
I'm maybe not the most positive player, but removing 1.8 is Worst!!! idea i heard so far.
I have been playing 1.8 for a few years here, i had alot of fun. I also switched to 1.9 so far since the toxicity was lower there. Combining these 2 communities is making it even worse.

Community Range
U guys try to increase the community range, then why should u remove 1.8?
Removing 1.8 would decrease ur community range, towards spam combat players.

Making the gamemodes possiblefor 1.8 like minerware is what we never asked for, and even if we did.
We would never say: Okay if that is not possible, REMOVE 1.8.

Gamemodes
Then third of all, i saw KitsuneToru said:

1% Is not really true, the 1.8 community might lower slowly, but 1.9 also does,

The 1.8 community is probably like 30% this time from the community, but of the bad choices
Cubecraft - Developer(s), Project-leaders and Owner(s)
Made the last 5 years, made also a big decreasement in players,

Community Problem - Plugins
First u lose players, then u make it even worse..?

U might have made a few good gamemodes last year for 1.11+
Among Slimes, and that gamemode with farms, mines etc.

But before that first u removed lobbies and made just 1 lobby that changes every 2-3 months?
(Not sure about the time)

With some simple NPCs used with Citizen Plugin, lmao.
Ye i know it makes it way more simple for you guys to steal plugins.

But the old sign system is really something that was used before by alot of servers. And nowadays it is just a compass or NPCs, so why don't u get the signs back? Sounds also pretty original to me by now.

Short
Keep 1.8, get back to OG-Signs.
No need for compatible 1.8 gamemodes. (FFA-Skywars-Eggwars-Lucky Islands) is just what we need there.
(Don't forget the blockwars modes, (bridges is ugly - Could easily be made for 1.8 compatibility)

And let us just play our way ^^ Isn't this community made for everyone? Kinda sad if u would remove 1.8 don't you think?

Bedrock has in my opinion a really weird combat way with weird hits etc. Maybe a bit to smooth etc for block games.
But besides that, it has really good stuff for building.

Java besides that, is more focused on combat, and less on building. So i suggest to keep 1.8 on cube :U
