Introduction
I have been playing on CubeCraft for a very long time now and I died a lot in the past years. All those deaths have made me spectating my friends a lot, which isn't always easy when you cannot find them that quickly. Then I realised that the spectating system could be a lot easier!

What does this suggestion mean?
It's basically an 'inventory' (let's call it that) with heads of the player being alive arranged at the numbers of the teams. Let's say 2 people are Team 1 and 2 other people are Team 8, obviously the people of Team 1 would be showed earlier in the inventory than Team 8. If you play a Solo game, it would be arranged in alphabetical order. Just to be clear: I captured this screenshot (see spoiler) on Hypixel, because they have this kind of system there. I'm aware that a 9 slot row will not be enough to show all the players being alive. I have a solution for that: Add a 'next page' icon to it, exactly like the Loot menu in the lobby.

How do you teleport to a player who is alive?
When you die, you will get a compass (or another item) which opens an inventory when you click on it. This inventory is where you can teleport to other people by clicking on their head. If you hover your mouse on someones head, you will see the number of the Team they're in and their username.

For what games should this be added?

Actually every game where you're able to spectate other players when you're dead: (Team)SkyWars, (Team)EggWars, (Team)LuckyIslands and possibly Featured games (like Line Dash) as well.

Why would this be a good improvement?

It makes spectating much easier and less confusing because you don't have to tap on a number on your keyboard to switch between players when you're spectating. I personally don't see any disadvantage of adding this new system. I do know that Hypixel has this system too but it makes things just a lot easier and it's not like they will be copying a total game-mode so adding this won't really be a problem in my point of view.

Let me know what you think about this suggestion ^-^

As far as I know, when the player is in spectator mode (gamemode 3) it's not possible to change the items in the hotbar. If there was a way to implement this without changing the gamemode of the player (spectator mode) that'll be great. I'll look more into this later to see if something like this can be added and if I have found something I'll post here how this can be made possible without changing the player's gamemode.

maybe one of the end slots could have a compass (or whatever) so you easily return to hub or join another game

I see this as unnecessary because you can just type /hub or /leave. There are also clickable “buttons” where you can play again, do auto mode, or leave.

Those clickable buttons are what I was referring to. I meant it in terms of efficiency. For me, that's much faster, especially because the internet in my area isn't always the best and the lobbies can be pretty laggy.

I agree it's not absolutely necessary, but it would be nice. :)

I don't think it's necessary because when you die and you want to spectate your teammates, you can easily press the button "Highlight Players (Spectators)" to find them.

I'm not quite sure if that will solve the problem. Especially on bigger maps, where it's not easy to recognize the island where you spawned. And what if they're not all together at one island? It would still be hard to find them because everyone, even players who aren't on your team, will be highlighted.

This suggestion is perfect, it has been years since that spectator mode was released to minecraft and I still don't know how to use it, it's not user friendly at all.

Your teammates are green highlighted and the enemies are red highlighted:
