Hi,

Currently featured games are randomly chosen, or they get picked using a poll. But the problem with this is, that there is a chance of games not becoming featured for over two months. Yes, I’m talking about Layer Spleef.

Staff said that with the current system for featured games, games are allowed to be featured 2-3 times a month. But this is not the case. It’s been forever since Layer Spleef was last featured. I’m sure there’s a different game that has the same issue. But I am sure Layer Spleef hasn’t been featured for at least over a month.

That is why I came up with a few ways to make it more fair, and to make sure all games actually get featured.

1.
You make a list, with every featured game, and re-use that every time. So if the list is
Quakecraft
Blockwars
Survival Games
Layer Spleef
Etc.
Then next time, once all 12 games have been featured, the same list will be used.

2.
Similar to the first one. Every featured period (I don’t know what else to call it), a new list will be generated. Currently a game will be randomly picked. But with this you generate an entire list. This way there’s a bigger chance of a game being featured more then once in the two months.
So period one, a list gets generated,
Quakecraft
Blockwars
Survival Games
Layer Spleef
Etc.
Then next period, the list will be generated again,
Layer Spleef
Survival Games
Quakecraft
Blockwars
Etc.

3. Players will vote for either a permanent list, so it’s basically idea one but instead of generating it, players will vote.

4. Players will vote for a list every period. And in the time the first period is going, players can vote for the list for the second period.
The way this would work is that a staff member will open a thread, with a poll. Then when the vote ends, the game with the most votes will be featured first, second place will be featured then etc.
If a game has the same amount of votes, it’ll be randomly picked.
My only issue with this is that players will probably vote for the same game and it’ll turn out in a sort of permanent list after all.

5. Keep generating it per game. But once a game has been randomly chosen, for example Blockwars, it’ll be removed from the list for that period. So it can’t be randomly chosen again until the period is over. You can still keep the vote and everything. Because as far as I know, once a game has been featured by vote, it gets removed from the poll so it can’t be chosen again.

Games are randomly chosen because some games are more popular than others. It makes sense that BlockWars has more odds than infection of being featured. I think the current system is perfect. Layer Spleef not being featured in so long is simple odds, the system is entirely fair.

It might make sense but that doesn't make it fair. Layer Spleef hasn't been featured for **2 months**
As Camezonda said in the screenshot, with the current system every game would be featured 2-3 times a month. But that's not the case. So it's not fair at all.

I like all of your options. Like you said, the way it gets handled right now really doesn’t work. Let’s give every player a fair chance to play every game :).

I completely agree with the suggestion and like it. By the way, after thinking roughly about it I've come with the conclusion that blockwars is featured almost always cause, as stated in the screenshot, each game gets featured about 2-3 times a month, so yea, blockwars gets featured 6 times a month (aprox) cause Core and Ctf are separated.

I understand you perceive my position as biased. But this is just simple logic, you have just been unlucky to not have layer Spleef featured.
It will eventually be featured, just be patient.

I think just double the chance of a game being picked if it hasn't been picked for one cycle, being 12 games. If a game hasn't been picked in two cycles, then double it again. It's a simple loop which wouldn't be too hard to implement.

Layer Spleef hasn't been featured for **2 months**
Just to wipe this mistake off the table: Layer Spleef hasn't been future for just a few days longer than 1 month.
I know this because I remember me making a (very cringe) Layer Spleef montage the last time it got futured. And I uploaded that video the same day Layer Spleef got replaced by the next future game (which I think was BlockWars... but can't fully remember though).
Here's the montage, in case you wanne see the date I uploaded it:
(I usually don't share my YT vids, they're meant for me and my irl friends to laugh with)

And as for the suggestion itself, I personally think option 5 would be the best, if you mean a predetermined period of time when you talk about "the period", and not just the list of all 12 games but in a random order when talking about "the period", because with a predetermined time, those highly requested games will still get futured more than those less popular games, but the less popular games will at least get the chance to be futured more often.
E.g. let's say this "predetermined period of time" is 10 days, and the current futured game is BlockWars.
Then after the period of BlockWars being futured, another game would get futured, and BlockWars can't get futured for the next 10 days, this way less popular games get a higher chance of being futured, but the popular ones, will still get futured a lot. (As long as this "predetermined period of time" isn't too long, because then this literally makes no sense at all as it will be a list of 12 games with a random order <-- would still be better then it is now, but not as good as what I just said, in my opinion of course)

Or option 1 sounds great as well: simple but perfect. Just a regular pattern of the games being futured!

Option 2. I do want a list that changes each time all the games are passed by. I don't care how slightly more or less popular a featured game is. All of these games are a featured game for a reason so they are equal in my eyes. All of them. No voting at all. Remove the 'the more people play the game, the more chance to get featured again' methode. You drive people mad with that method. Oh and btw stop implementing Team Survival Games after Solo Survival Games and vice versa. And also stop with implementing Blockwars CTF after Blockwars Core Mode and vice versa. Just spread it out.

Of course this is just my opinion and I understand that this current method probably is a good method
to earn money somehow for the server, but this is how I look at it emotionally. Yes I have feelings too.

I'm going to bump this thread as I've not seen any reply from management and Layer Spleef has still not been featured.

I suggested a bunch of different way for games to be featured. Not just two / one.

I'd like to see idea 4. Maybe having 1st place with the most number of votes come first, basically a most votes to least votes. To add on to idea 4, maybe make each of those games in that list be featured once per day (for 12 days since there is 12 games) Then after that period ends, a new voting period shall start and then so on. So that way, everyone can at least play here favorite game once or twice.
