Explaining why you don't agree helps the creator of the thread. +As Jevmen said, this could easily be abused by users who want to take a so-called 'revenge'.
What if you want to dislike a post? Sometimes, posts don't need an explanation as to why they were disliked, and if there is any abuse then you can just hand out punishments to people who abuse it.

Why would you like to dislike a post? Imo this only brings hate.
To show that you disagree with what the person is saying...?

You seem to be viewing this as a very negative thing. If someone dislikes your post then they aren't doing it in a "hateful" manner. They are just using it as a tool to say they disagree or dislike whatever you're saying. No toxicity involved whatsoever.

You know there's another forum for another Minecraft server, and it has both a dislike and a disagree rating? They actually make the forums more alive and kind of convenient. And the ratings don't seem to cause as much trouble as you seem to think they would. It's not the end of the world if something gets bombarded with dislikes, you kind of just move on.
Assuming you're talking about Hypixel

Their forums are more alive perhaps because they always have more than triple the amount of Cubecraft players online (more players = more forum members)

This has been suggested in the past, a reason that came up and that I agree with was that the dislike button would discourage most people from explaining in the comments why they disagree thus removing valid arguments that would further the threads development.

In this sense, I find it ironic that you add "please state why you disagree to having a dislike button" in your poll.
I could have just voted "no" and not commented here...

The second reason that came up was the toxicity and tensions it would cause. A lot of our members are pretty young with sensitive egos, and when they have an awesome (though unbalanced) suggestion it would be a shame for them to be showered in dislikes for reasons unrelated to the suggestion/argument itself such as bad grammar, spite, bad phrasing, misunderstandings or simply just because they don't share the same opinion, disliking the comment is very vague as you are not actually saying what you dislike about it, better make a comment quoting him and express your own detailed opinion/thoughts on it below.

This has already been added to another forum and it doesn't discourage giving a reply to people, so I don't know why it would be any different here.

You could have, but you didn't because you had arguments that you wanted to point out. Same would probably happen if you had the option to dislike. People will still want to point out whatever they have to say, the dislike button is just an addition that could show how many people agree/disagree with a post, which could be a thread or reply.

Nobody is going to get super upset and have their ego ruined because a group of people disliked their post, and even if some people do, I'm more than sure they'll get over it no more than an hour. I don't understand why you think this is a toxic thing to add either, it's just a rating. Nothing toxic or negative about it, it just gives a more overall idea on how many people disagree/agree with a specific post or statement.

Blame gen X for being butthurt at their baby boomer parents for being real with them, which led to them saying everything their milennial offspring did was good regardless of quality, which they've adopted as parents to gen Z. This is what causes ppl to be disappointed and struggle to take when someone doesn't like their creation or disagrees with what they say, which is most common in kids as they've not been around long enough to realise their parents aren't being real with them.
Also, in my entire time on these forums, I've seen less than five users who share their age publicly that are under 13, none of which are under 10, except for an obviously satire account that claimed to be 1.
